10 Programming Tricks That Will Make Your Life Easier!

For as long as I can remember I’ve loved programming. In fact, my most favorite method of teaching myself computer science was writing code. Writing code has always felt easy as a form of self-expression, procrastination, and hyper-focus.

Writing code has become the go-to technique for almost every engineer who has ever wanted to learn how to code. So what happens when you actually get involved in the keyboarding aspect of coding? When your friends and family check up on you for clues on how to perform a certain specific task?

You feel a little timid? Did it go beyond the limitations of the programming tools you’ve used for your curriculum? Have you really put in the time and effort to learn this? Have you worked hard at it or has this become a fading urge? Don’t worry you’re not alone.

If you’re considering having your resume decked out with your coding prowess, you might get very discouraged when you hear that you haven’t spent all that much time learning how to code.

In case you’re new to programming, here are a few tips that’ll prove to be a revelation for everyone.

Turning your keyboard into a keyboard (edit index)

“How great is your writing, but what’s missing is that key skill? Answer: You don’t really know how to type efficiently,” says Gabby Breitenbach.

So, how can we improve our typing skills? Well, you can’t, but you can go ahead and turn your keyboard into a keyboard. This simple hack can make a world of difference for anyone who writes software for any type of organization. From testing a sales pitch on a client to getting a team of programmers to work together effectively and efficiently, doing this “project management” hack can work out of your entire day.

Create a list of strings

For example, we might spend all day with our keyboards. While that’s great and all, a better use of time would be creating a list of strings that hold the information you’re looking for. However, this might still be quite difficult to do, not to mention adding it to your computer as a whole. (Why do I bring this up as a solution to growing static credentials?)

Not to worry, anyone can start working with files much faster. The most common string list process is file path editing. Now, I’m not talking about just reshaping this list manually; I’m talking about organizing this file easily for use by others. Having a specific route for typing the code that needs to be loaded into the computer, this way someone who has a phone or tablet can actually type the code and hit “enter” before even opening the file.

Cloud-based code management

If you have any projects that require multiple people working on their code, use of the cloud is helpful. Thus, you can forget bringing in them as dependencies. This will save you thousands of dollars spent on printing and paper printing that is useless.

What would you recommend for a team of programmers? If you were running through this experiment, you’d likely start by identifying yourself. Once you’ve done this, please share your thoughts and projects with others. While this could be considered an extra task (like running a search for what projects your colleague worked on and linking those projects back to what you’re working on), if your group of programmers spend the bulk of their working day in conference rooms or just in the bathroom, having a way to spend them, post to GitHub or Posterly is a simple addition to your work.

Locate frequently used structures in code

I know. After using this in my preliminary research for this piece, I saw an immediate rise in the number of people using code structures. Never underestimate the power of this command line to snap your fingers, move files around, and to actually highlight patterns in your code.

Increase time

In the future I’ll pick up the baton of rolling with the switch, and load my keyboard like I was writing code. While the experience of typing code can leave me a little uneasy, it’s a tool that makes my life easier. Because of this, I’ll be doing this even when I am writing.

These skills will make a world of difference for writers, programmers, business professionals, and more!
